Vau Vau Fashion Show - Catch Up

Better late than never...  

Here are some of my photos from the fabulous VAU VAU Fashion Show which raised over £2000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Cancer Research UK.

It was an incredibly unique event and it offered something different from the usual fashion show. From the old abandoned Leftbank Church it was held in, to the alternative style of the models and outfits. The event was amazing fun and everybody’s enthusiasm was evident throughout regardless of the Northern cold.

As one of the main assistants to the fashion show I was there early helping set up and generally running around like a mad man.

The hair was done by the incredible Rebel Pin Up who specialize in offering ‘cutting edge hairdressing with a rock and roll attitude’ and if it wasn’t for my placement searching I would be heading straight there for a head full of colour and a dramatic cut as they really are the best hairdressers for colouring in Leeds. For this show there was a mix of vintage rolls, mad crimping and massive horns and antlers.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Vivi Sterling from Texas, who has the nicest accent, a mix between Scottish and Texas.

The event was wonderful and I like to thank the organisers Toria Brightside and Emma Parry for getting me involved and doing a fantastic job and to Fashion Pony for sponsoring the show.

Leeds RAG Fashion Show is nearly here!


I'm so incredibly excited for tomorrow, which is set to be the most stressful, hectic but also the most rewarding day of the year. I cannot wait to see the final result and all of our hard work put together.

I am currently sat in the final rehersal frantically typing this blog post before I'm pulled into action and am surrounded by mass hysteria and the air of excitement as all the models find out all the final details. All of which are top secret at the moment so I'm afraid I cannot tell you. Basically expect the weird and wonderful!!

If you don't already know the show is sponsored by Harvey Nichols so this isn't going to be any ordinary university fashion show, expect Prada, Armani, Burberry, ACNE, Gucci and much much more! As well as an eclectic mixture of vintage and current clothes.

Autumn's faces.

Halloween is one of my favourite holidays, I absolutely love any excuse for fancy dress and acting out a different persona. I always feel much freer and comfortable in fancy dress, I don’t really know what that says about me but give me a mask and I feel as if I can do/achieve anything.

Last year I and my flat mate went completely OTT and made our outfits from scratch and took photographs in the graveyard behind our University halls.

So this year I decided to calm it down a bit.

I went for the standard dead look based on a pair of tights my Dad bought for me. I wore my old hair extensions, which really made me want long hair again, but I really dislike the in-between stage of growing it, when it becomes that awkward length.

Last weekend was way too hard core for my new recluse lifestyle. My small two bedroom house was invaded by people and ended up having three incredibly messy nights and one person sleeping in the bath, in typical University style.

The original plan was to go and see the firework display in Hyde Park. But our plans changed because of the rain and we ended up staying in and playing with sparklers in the yard.

My sister found this playsuit for me in Primark, and for five pounds it’s an absolute bargain. I love the print, it’s got a real autumn feel to it and is really comfortable to wear.

The next day we went on a spontaneous day trip to York with sore heads. York is such a beautiful city; I can’t believe I’ve never visited before. It is very quaint and picturesque and had a festive market on when we went which was lovely. I ended up spending far too much on fudge as it was too tempting to resist. We ended up going to a Yorkshire tea room, which was really pretty but a bit overbearing as the waitresses were very snobbish and made us all feel pretty uncomfortable.

After such a hectic weekend I’ve been spending the last few nights catching up on work and curled up in bed with a cup of tea. It’s been six days and I’m still returning to normal.

Vintage Kilo Sale

So the rain finally started on Saturday. But instead of hiding away inside, I headed to town ignoring my ever growing overdraft.

Somehow ended up spending thirty quid in Primark which actually impressed me for once and I just couldn’t resist.

I found a vintage kilo sale going on in one of my favourite clubs, Wire. I had high expectations after my first kilo sale on Brick Lane a couple of years ago. I was pleasantly surprised, it wasn’t too busy at the beginning and it was exactly the right size not to get bored, plus the dj was brilliant. Ended up eating into my overdraft again, but at £15 a kilo it was definitely worth it.
